Actress Shaina Magdayao said that despite the intrigues that hound her and boyfriend John Lloyd Cruz, she is determined to make their relationship last.
“Mahirap talaga [magkaroon ng relasyon sa showbiz] mas lalo na ‘pag dumadaan sa pagsubok,” she said during the press conference for her new series starrer, “Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo.”
Actress Shaina Magdayao said that despite the intrigues that hound her and boyfriend John Lloyd Cruz, she is determined to make their relationship last.
“Pero ako kasi 'yong tipo ng tao na the more you put me down, the more I’ll prove you wrong, mas lalaban at lalaban ako, hindi ako magpapatalo.”
However, just like any woman, Magdayao said that when her partner becomes the issue, she can only tolerate so much.
“Lahat naman tayo may kanya-kanya tayong tolerance. Gaya ng iilang babae, siguro may kaya akong palagpasin, pero meron akong punto na teka lang muna, sandali lang, out muna ako,” she said.
“Gaya ninyo, normal na babae lang [ako]. Siguro hindi kasi ako martir. Hanggang may kaya lang akong lunukin, hanggang dun lang ‘yon. Kapag lumagpas ka dun, then I’m out.”
Magdayao was quick to erase doubts that she and Cruz are going through a rough patch. On the contrary, she said they have come to appreciate each other more following their recent break-up.
“Mas na-appreciate namin 'yong isa’t isa ngayon, mas alam niya ‘yong needs ko, mas alam ko ‘yong needs niya as a person, mas tumaas 'yong respeto namin sa isa’t isa,” she said.
“Kasi when you part ways, dapat hanggang dun na lang ‘yon. Pero kapag nagkabalikan kayo, dun siguro mas tumaas ‘yong respeto namin. Na-realize namin 'yong worth ng isa’t isa.”
Intimate scenes not an issue
Magdayao said their relationship strengthened partly because they have a better understanding of each other’s roles on-screen and the demands of their work. In her latest TV project, Magdayao is set to play Sarah, wife to actor Jake Cuenca’s character Paul.
On the intimate scenes she is set to do with her “Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo” co-star, Magdayao said filming of the “passionate sequences” will be a non-issue.
“Sa mga projects na tinatahak namin ngayon, [we play characters who are] very mature. Hindi mo na masasabi na nagpapa-sweet kami or teenybopper. Parte na ‘yon, nasa isang kumpanya naman kami. Kilala naman namin yung mga nakaka-partner ng isa’t isa so wala dapat issue,” she said.
In the newest “Kapamilya Gold” offering of ABS-CBN, Magdayao and Cuenca will portray a married couple who will face challenges in their relationship when Mia, played by Bangs Garcia, tries to tear them apart.
Completing the star-studded cast are Gloria Diaz, Sandy Andolong, Maria Isabel Lopez, Ronnie Lazaro, Dick Ysrael, Nikki Valdez, Jojit Lorenzo, Ron Morales and David Chua; with the special participation of Christopher de Leon and Philip Salvador, and young stars Paul Salas and Mariel Pamintuan.
The newest afternoon drama series will premiere on April 16. It is directed by Manny Palo and Lino Cayetano.
